There Is Hope With Homeopathy
As we enter April, the world remains focused on the tragic events that occurred in March in Japan. Where I live in California, many people continue to fret over predictions of large earthquakes occurring here and the radiation that is
gradually making its way across the ocean from Japan.
At times like these, it is a comfort to know that there is hope with homeopathy. First and foremost, homeopathy offers the best and safest approach to handling feelings of fear, anxiety, grief, and paralysis that can occur at
times like these. Homeopathy can also address the physical symptoms that can also occur -- like sleeplessness, trembling, fatigue, or headaches. There are numerous remedies that can alleviate such problems, enabling people to cope
more effectively and do what needs to be done.
In fact, homeopaths have been there to provide effective help for the survivors of the
Haiti earthquake and 9/11 too. Common remedies to consider for such situations include: Aconite,
Ignatia, Arnica, Arsenicum Album, Gelsemium, and Natrum Muriaticum. A good article with an overview of useful remedies was written by Miranda Castro and can be found on the site of the
National Center for Homeopathy: Homeopathic Remedies for Traumatic Stress.
So what about the radiation? While some people have recommended prophylactic use of remedies to cope with possible radiation sickness, I personally would not advocate this approach. If radiation exposure is truly imminent within
hours, then the safest approach is probably to follow recommended procedures for protection, including supplements like potassium iodide, or foods containing iodine like sea vegetables (for example, kelp), which were successful in
helping those exposed to the Chernobyl disaster and the survivors of Hiroshima.
If exposure has occurred and symptoms of radiation sickness are occurring, however, homeopathy does offer hope. First of all, homeopathy can help alleviate the symptoms of radiation sickness. Homeopathy also has a great track record
in detoxification. In particular, if a known substance has caused a poisoning, a highly potentized remedy made from that substance can help to detoxify the body from it. This method of homeopathic treatment is often called
isopathy (but is more properly called tautopathy). There are numerous remedies made from radioactive substances, including Radium bromatum, Uranium nitricum, Plutonium nitricum, and
X-ray . Remember that a very high potency remedy would be so dilute that it would not contain not an iota of radiation within it. Nevertheless, these can be very intense remedies -- so
always seek treatment by a classical homeopath (and a doctor) in a case of radiation sickness. Do not try to treat yourself.
Interestingly, I also just heard of a new book entitled, The Homeopathic Treatment of Biological, Chemical, and Nuclear Exposures, by Savely Yurkovsky, MD. I haven't seen it and can't really comment about it (though after a
brief glance at the table of contents, much of it is not in line with classical treatment), but I thought you might be interested to know about it.
In the meantime, probably the best thing you can do is send healing thoughts to the people of Japan, do some earthquake preparation if that is relevant for you, and stay healthy -- with the help of homeopathy and a homeopathic
practitioner.
